INFOCURRENT RECOGNIZES NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK

Washington, D.C. (April 14, 2004) - InfoCurrent, an information management staffing company, joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country in celebrating National Library Week, April 18 - 24, 2004.

National Library Week started as a national observance in the late-1950s. In response to concerns that Americans were reading less, the ALA and the American Book Publishers formed a nonprofit citizens organization called the National Book Committee. In 1957 the committee developed a plan for National Library week that kicked off in 1958. When the committee disbanded in 1974, the ALA assumed full sponsorship. ("National Library Week." In the U.S. today, public and other libraries combined make up more than 124,000 libraries with over 400,000 librarians and library workers according to the ALA. Today's libraries not only provide a place to access books, but also offer services around the most advanced mediums including the Internet, virtual libraries, and remote access to library resources.

"National Library Week creates an opportunity for InfoCurrent to celebrate the profession with our clients and with the hundreds of librarians, knowledge managers, information specialists, and library paraprofessionals that InfoCurrent puts to work each year," said Tammy Barclay, regional vice president, InfoCurrent. "The profession has seen a great number of changes over the years, and InfoCurrent is very proud to be a part of the excitement."

Whether you are looking to educate, inform, or simply to entertain, a visit to your local library will introduce you to resources needed to live, work, and learn. To find out more about National Library Week, visit www.ala.org or contact your local library.
